Unleash your career potential with the M.S. in Management program

M.S. in Management student ambassador Brenda Corado ’24 explains why this Belk College of Business program is a wise investment for any non-business major.

Embarking on a career in business can be daunting, especially for someone without an academic background in it. When I first decided to enter the M.S. in Management (MSM) program, I was asked many times, “Why do you want to go into business if you did not get your degree in that?” and “What about your degree in sociology?” Initially, it was difficult to explain why I transitioned from liberal arts to pursuing a business degree, but soon I learned that the purpose of this program is to add value to the degree I already have and expand my skills beyond sociology. The MSM program serves as a gateway for non-business undergraduates to enter the dynamic world of business and other related fields.

The program is tailored to accommodate students from diverse academic backgrounds. Whether you hold a degree in engineering, humanities or any other non-business field, the MSM is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of key business concepts. From accounting to marketing, the curriculum ensures that you acquire the foundational knowledge necessary to navigate the business world. It also introduces you to interdisciplinary perspectives. Skills I learned through my sociology degree, such as research and data analysis, have been applied to various courses in the program. In these courses I can use the skills I have already learned and build upon them.

Through a blend of practical experience and rigorous coursework, the MSM program also shapes you into a leader who can navigate complex industries with confidence. From mastering strategic decision-making to perfecting communication skills, every aspect of the program is designed to bring out the leader in you. You’ll find yourself not just learning about leadership but actively practicing it in real-world scenarios. This ensures that you graduate not only with a degree but with the practical skills and mindset needed to lead a team, make impactful decisions and drive success in any professional setting.

Another key component of this program is the built in career development course. It is designed to prepare students to enter the job market while  completing their degree. Having a dedicated course that offers career services has been a game changer for me. With this course, I have been able to prepare myself for interviews and learn how to stand out as a job candidate. Additionally, UNC Charlotte’s strong network of alumni and industry partners provides valuable networking opportunities that expose you to professionals and potential employers. Through this course I have connected with multiple industry professionals that have provided valuable insight, advice and support throughout my job search and career development process.

Whether you want to join the business world or another industry, the MSM program empowers students to navigate and succeed in their chosen careers, ensuring they are well-rounded and competitive candidates. Joining this program is not just an investment in education, it’s a strategic move towards a successful and fulfilling career.
