Dustin Read named Center for Real Estate director

Dr. Dustin Read has been appointed director of the Center for Real Estate at UNC Charlotte.

Read, who has served as interim director since January, joined the Center in 2007 as associate director. A clinical assistant professor of finance in the Belk College of Business, Read earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy from UNC Charlotte and a J.D. from the University of Missouri at Columbia. His teaching and research activities primarily focus on real estate development and land use regulations.

“This is a well-deserved promotion for Dustin,” said Belk College Dean Steven Ott, the founding director of the Center. “He has establish strong rapports with students, alumni and real estate leaders in Charlotte, and I’m confident in his ability to lead the Center during an exciting time of growth.”

As director, Read will oversee the Belk College’s academic programs in real estate, including an M.B.A. concentration, a post-graduate certificate and a proposed Master of Science in Real Estate which, pending approval from the UNC Board of Governors, may begin enrolling students in Fall 2012. He will also serve as liaison to the Center’s advisory board and the Real Estate Alumni Association.

The Center for Real Estate at UNC Charlotte was established to further the knowledge of real estate, public policy and urban economics in the professional community through its teaching, research and community outreach activities. It was recently ranked among the 20 most active research institutions in real estate during the past decade.
