UNC Charlotte SIFE team wins regional competition
The UNC Charlotte SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) team won the organization’sregional league competitionon April 3. This is thethirdconsecutive championship year for the UNC Charlotte chapter, which was formed three years ago.
The UNC Charlotteteamwillattend the SIFE national competition in Kansas CityMay 21-23 to compete against 169 other university teams for the SIFE National Championship Trophy.
In addition to the overall regional competition, SIFE awards trophies for the best project in six project competition categories. The UNC Charlotte team won first place in four of the six categories: market economics;entrepreneurship;business ethics; andsustainability.
Team members are:
- Janelle Geaber, a senior from South Kingstown, R.I., with a double major in marketing and art photography;
- Joseph Rinaldi, a junior finance major from Charlotte, N.C.;
- Erika Escalera, a junior from Guanajuato, Mexico, with a double major in international business and management;
- Katherine Baas, a senior management major from Hillsborough, N.C.;
- Trey Rhyne, a junior computer science major from Gastonia, N.C.;
- Shivang Patel, a sophomore from Boone, N.C., with a triple major in international business, finance, and computer science; and
- Amy Harkins, a sophomore with a double major in marketing and finance from Charlotte, N.C.
Annette Hoover serves as Sam Walton Fellow and SIFE faculty advisor for the UNC Charlotte team.
The students dedicated their regional presentation to Dr. Jack T. Hogue, founder of the UNC Charlotte SIFE chapter, who died last July in an automobile accident.
