Alumni Council Hosts Panel Discussion on Diversity
The Belk College of Business Alumni Council co-hosted “Discussing Diversity: A Place to Begin,” a virtual panel discussion, on May 4. The event was a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas and sponsored by Equitable Foundation.
The panel discussion was moderated by Kevin Bailey, UNC Charlotte’s vice chancellor for student affairs and panelists were:
-
Jesse Bridges, senior vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion, EVERFI.
-
Imani Green, program coordinator, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas.
-
Solange Tricanowicz, assistant director for Graduate Student Enrollment and diversity, equity and inclusion liaison for faculty and staff, Belk College
“The Alumni Council was eager to host this opportunity for Business Niner alumni and friends to help build candid communication and share an opportunity for us to learn to live respectfully together and benefit from one another’s wisdom and experiences,” says Brian Swilling ‘03, Chair of the Belk College Alumni Council community service committee. “As these resources are more prevalent in the workplace, we wanted to focus on how to have these conversations at home and in the community.”
The discussion focused on tips and suggestions for talking to children and family members about diversity. Participants gained insight into how to bring up the importance of diversity with their own family or with children they mentor.
Panelists also provided suggestions for additional resources.
A recording of the program is available on the Belk College’s YouTube page.
