Belk College of Business alumni, faculty, staff and friends responded to the call during #NinerNationGives, raising more than $78,000 with 281 gifts during the 49-hour digital fundraising event, April 5-7.

“The past two years have brought challenges for so many, including our Belk College students,” said Dean Jennifer Troyer, who opened the campaign with a $5,000 matching challenge. “This generous support during #NinerNationGives will go directly to support student scholarships and areas of need in the Belk College. Thank you for helping us prepare our students to lead and pursue careers that matter, while driving what’s next.”

The college called on its over 34,000 alumni as well as faculty, staff and friends to wear green, show their Niner pride and impact current and future Belk College students by participating in the seventh annual giving event, April 5-7.

For this year’s event, a focus was on student scholarships.

Including the Dean’s Matching Challenge, this year’s event was supported through six challenge gifts where donors could help unlock additional funding:

  • Belk College Alumni Council Match Challenge from the Belk College Alumni Council ($5,000)
  • Young Alumni Battle of the Colleges from alumni Gene Johnson ‘73 and Vicki Johson ‘71 ($4,900)
  • Belk College Scholarship Challenge from Associate Dean Pat Mynatt ($4,900)
  • TIAA Women in Business Challenge ($5,000), which supported the Women in Business initiative.
  • Steven Jolly Family Scholarship Challenge from alumna Amy Jolly Kennedy in memory of her father, a retired Belk College faculty member ($1,000)

Three Belk College alumni also were in the Top 10 #NinerNationGives ambassadors for the overall campaign.

  • Christopher Moxley ‘03 (67 gifts)
  • Alicia Bartosch ‘05, ‘07 (18)
  • Amy Kennedy ‘10 (17)

Belk College giving priorities this year included:

  • The Belk College Alumni Scholarship: Established by the Belk College Alumni Council in 2014, the fund provides scholarships for students to bridge the gap between financial aid and need.
  • The Belk College Dean’s Excellence Fund: This fund supports critical needs at the college. The fund, the most flexible resource, also supports student success through scholarships and helps the college attract and retain top educators.
  • Women in Business Fund: This fund supports the college’s Women in Business Initiative, which aims to empower Belk College undergraduate students through networking and mentoring events and an annual conference.
  • In addition, Business Niners could elect to support a department or program fund for which they have a special affinity, including the Turner School Endowed Fund and the Insurance Assistance Student Fund.

UNC Charlotte employees were invited to make a gift to their favorite college, unit, department or team through the #NinerNationGives Faculty and Staff Campaign March 21-April 7. Reggie Silver, associate dean for graduate programs and executive education, and Jenny Vincent, director of finance and personnel, served as the Belk College’s 2022 #NinerNationGives champions.

To support the college’s #NinerNationGives, several videos were created. They can be viewed on YouTube.

Overall, this year’s #NinerNationGives campaign broke records, with 5,023 total gifts and raising more than $2.6 million to support life-changing scholarships, special programs, athletic initiatives and groundbreaking research at UNC Charlotte.

Alumni and friends are encouraged to support the Belk College year round and join the College for alumni and community events and programs.
