Belk College Class of 2022 Spotlight: Liz McClure, commencement speaker
As a non-traditional student, class of 2022 graduate and commencement speaker Liz McClure spent several years away from the classroom.
“I had been planning to return to school for several years when I was considering UNC Charlotte, as well as other local options. UNC Charlotte seemed to be the best fit for me and had a great reputation,” said McClure, who is graduating with a bachelor of science in business administration (BSBA). Her major is management, with a concentration in talent management.
McClure, recipient of the Jill S. Tietjen, P.E. Scholarship and Osher Re-entry Scholarship worked as a human resources intern at Union Power Cooperative this semester. She is pursuing a career in human resources, focusing in specialization and employee compensation.
Investing her time to earn her degree was time well spent, she says, recalling fond memories of the friends she has met during her Charlotte journey.
“My biggest highlight was becoming good friends with some of my fellow students,” she said. “It has been wonderful to have a group of people that understand exactly what you’re working through and keep you on track with some good laughs.”
McClure thanks Dr. Torsten Pieper, associate professor of management, for his positive impact and support.
McClure encourages the next generation of Business Niners to take a chance.
“Don’t be afraid to take a chance on an opportunity that may be outside of your comfort zone. It’s amazing what experiences might be waiting for you!” said McClure.
Following graduation, she plans to celebrate her accomplishments by traveling to Europe.
