2 alumni among America’s Most Influential Black Executives
Dontá Wilson ‘97 and Derrick Steele ‘97 set the standard for leadership in corporate America. Savoy Magazine, a leading Black business and lifestyle magazine, recognized the two Belk College of Business alumni in the magazine’s 2022 Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America list. The list showcases African American leaders in national and global-leading corporations. Wilson and Steele are featured in Savoy’s summer 2022 edition and website.
About Dontá Wilson
Wilson has held various leadership roles in his 20-plus-year career at Truist Financial Corporation.

Wilson, chief retail and small business officer, is a member of the company’s executive management team.

He is responsible for leading world-class, distinctive client banking experiences powered by innovative technology and personal service.

He leads the retail, small business and premier segments who serve clients through more than 2,100 community banking branches across the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Texas; ATMs; contact centers; and deposit and loan products.

He also oversees marketing, client analytics, enterprise client experience strategy, and digital banking, which includes digital sales, transformation, innovation, and strategy.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in management from the Belk College of Business in 1997. In the spring of 2022, Wilson served as the Belk College’s presenter for the C-Suite Speaker Series. Wilson also served on the Belk College Board of Advisors and was named to the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees in 2021.
About Derrick Steele
Steele has had a distinguished career as a business leader and executive with more than 25 years of experience in providing advisory services to large financial services firms, insurance companies and asset management clients.

Steele is a partner in EY’s Financial Services Office, one of the Big Four accounting firms.

He serves as the Americas Process & Controls Leader for EY’s Financial Services Office.

Prior to joining EY in 2002, he began his career as an auditor at NationsBank.
He earned a bachelor of science in accounting from the Belk College of Business in 1997. Steele serves on the Turner School of Accountancy Advisory Board and received the 2021 Belk College Distinguished Alumni Award.
