Spring Belk College / TIAA-CREF Alumni-Employer Luncheon
The Belk College of Business invited TIAA-CREF employees to join us for lunch at the TIAA main campus and in the New York office on Monday, May 11, 2015. The luncheon was a special opportunity for Belk College and UNC Charlotte alumni to connect with others who work at TIAA and learn about the graduate program and executive resources offered by the Belk College of Business. Each alumnus was invited to bring a friend to the luncheon at either location and help expand the alumni network.
136 Belk College alumni and friends registered for the event at the Charlotte and New York offices, and Dr. Gary Kohut, Director of the Belk College of Business MBA Program at UNC Charlotte, served as the keynote speaker. Dr. Kohut gave a presentation on the topic of “Negotiation.” Dr. Kohut is a recognized expert and active consultant on communication and management development. His primary areas of expertise include corporate communication strategy, leadership and management development, applied technology in business communication, and strategies for educational and training improvement.
Dr. Kohut presented a step-by-step guide to successful negotiation and helped alumni master the skills needed to become an effective negotiator. His presentation included pointers around topics including: You negotiate every day. It may be with customers/clients, colleagues, your boss, or employees. Whether it’s allocating resources for a project, funding a new initiative, or agreeing on who will take on specific tasks, negotiation is at the heart of the process. A lack of skill at negotiating undermines a professional’s overall confidence. Skill at negotiating adds strength and confidence to every aspect of business and life outside of business.
