Mila Markevych
Mila Markevych joined the Belk College of Business in August 2025 after earning a Ph.D. in economics from the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on structural change, income inequality, gender pay gaps and labor market dynamics in the context of technological advancement.
In her recent work, Markevych examines how changes in consumption patterns contribute to structural change and moderate the rise in income inequality driven by shifts in production technologies. She also explores gender dynamics in labor markets, with particular attention to task composition and workplace hierarchies. Using administrative data from the U.S. Federal Civil Service, her findings underscore the impact of female managers on the pay trajectories of female employees—especially those in less routine occupations—highlighting the critical role of job structure in shaping pay disparities in the era of technological change.
