Dr. Oscar Barzuna-Hidalgo, known to students as Figu, is the Program Director of the MS in Entrepreneurship and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at the Belk College of Business. He holds a Bachelor’s and Licentiate degree in Public Accounting from the University of Costa Rica, an MBA from Gardner-Webb University, and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from UNC Charlotte.

His research examines how entrepreneurs navigate institutional voids and resource constraints through innovative strategies, especially within developing economies. Committed to experiential learning, Barzuna Hidalgo integrates live consulting projects and community partnerships into his courses, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.

He is actively engaged in Charlotte’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and frequently speaks on topics such as small business resilience and innovation.
