Prior to joining the Belk College of Business, Dr. Guinn taught at Middle Tennessee State University. He has public accounting experience with local, regional and national CPA firms. Dr. Guinn was the 1999 recipient of the Bank of America Award for Excellence in Teaching, UNC Charlotte's most prestigious teaching award. He was a finalist for this award in 1994. In 1995 and 2005 Dr. Guinn received the Thomas C. Turner Distinguished Teaching Award, presented by the Department of Accounting at UNC Charlotte. His research interests are in the areas of auditing, fraud, financial accounting and accounting education. His publications on these topics have appeared in various academic and professional journals, including Issues in Accounting Education, The CPA Journal, and The Tax Adviser. He is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Dr. Guinn is past president of the Charlotte Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. He joined the Belk College of Business in 1976.
