What degree did you pursue and why?

I pursued my M.S. in Economics. I’ve had a natural inclination towards economics since high school and was blessed with the opportunity to enter the program as an early entry student in Fall 2019.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business over others?

I entered my freshman year at UNC Charlotte as a Belk Scholar. The Belk Scholars Program is an accelerated master’s program that allows you to graduate with one of three master’s degrees from the Belk College of Business in five years. This opportunity was too good to pass up and I’ve been extremely grateful for the doors it has opened both from a personal and professional standpoint.

As the Belk College of Business celebrates its 50th anniversary, what has been your favorite memory as a student?

Maybe I am a little crazy but showing up to campus for another night of studying with fellow cohort members sticks out. To work through a lot of difficult problems and assignments makes you feel like you accomplished something. That brought us all closer together and made for a lot of good memories and laughs. The bonds that were made those nights laid the groundwork for lifelong friendships.

What has been the best part of your academic experience?

The experiences made with my cohort. I know this echoes the answer to the previous question, but this can’t be stated enough. At the end of the day, humans are relational beings, and the relationships built with professors and fellow students will make or break your experience in any master’s program.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone considering a master’s degree program?

It’ll be one of the most challenging experiences of your life. However, to do something you’ve never done, you've got to be someone you’ve never been. This program forces you out of your comfort zone and encourages you to grow. A master’s program isn’t for everyone, but if you are looking to take the next step in your academic and professional life the master’s programs offered through the Belk College of Business provide the structure needed to excel and succeed in the real world.

Anything else you want to share that may help readers learn about Belk College graduate programs?

Don’t ever stop asking questions. Professors and peers usually are willing to lend a helping hand and if they can’t answer the question themselves, they try to point you in the direction of someone who can. That kind of academic networking is unbeatable, and it’s been surreal to experience.
