TIAA-CREF to offer fellowship for Belk College Ph.D. program

Financial services organization TIAA-CREF hascreated a fund at UNC Charlotte tosupport thenew Ph.D. program in business administration in the Belk College of Business.

Thefund will support a doctoral fellowship program that will providerecipients with a $25,000 stipend,tuition support,health insurance and the opportunity to pursue a paid internship with TIAA-CREF during the course of their studies.

"TIAA-CREF's generous support will enable us to recruit the top doctoral students in the country," said Richard Buttimer, associate professor of finance and director of the Ph.D. program. "We are confident that the TIAA-CREF Fellows will make a significant contribution to their professions and societyafter they earn their degrees."

The Belk College recently received permission from the University of North Carolina Board of Governors to offer the Ph.D. in business administration and will enroll its first class in the fall of 2006.
