Interactive classroom features state-of-the-art technology

UNC Charlotte’s Belk College of Business will dedicate a new, interactive trading room at a reception on Tuesday, March 28.

The trading room will be used by business and finance students, including participants in the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), which invests real funds from the UNC Charlotte Foundation endowment. The room incorporates state-of-the-art financial technology, including two dedicated Sun Microsystem servers that will allow students to build realistic and complex models of financial portfolios.

"This trading room will not only provide students with real-world applications of their business curriculum, it will also serve as a laboratory for research conducted by faculty," said Dr. Richard Buttimer, associate professor of finance and coordinator of the M.S. in Mathematical Finance program.

Business leaders, including members of the Belk College’s advisory council and executives from SUN Microsystems, Duke Energy and Evergreen Investments will attend the reception.
