Woodward to lead Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education

James Woodward, chancellor emeritus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, has been appointed chair of Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education, a new citizens group.

The organization will serve as an advocate for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and will ensure the accountability of the school system. Woodward's first task will be to select a board for the organization, which he hopes will bein place by the end of 2006.

Woodward served as UNC Charlotte's chancellor for 15 years. Since retiring in 2005, he hasstayed active in the community and has taken on a new role atthe university,teaching a course infinancial managementin the Belk College of Business M.B.A. program.
