SIFE students to host Career Day for undergraduates

Monday, October 9, 2006

The UNC Charlotte chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will host its annual “Career Day” for undergraduate business students on Monday, Oct. 23.

From 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, business executives from companies throughout the Charlotte region will take over for professors in junior- and senior-level classes in the Belk College of Business. They will discuss topics related to career development and preparation in fields ranging from accounting to operations management.

In addition to arranging the guest lectures, SIFE is working with the UNC Charlotte Career Center to provide students with mock interviews throughout the day with business professionals, who will provide feedback to prepare students for future interviews.

Career Day will conclude with the popular Etiquette Dinner, which will take place from 5:30 to 8:00 PM in the salons of the Barnhardt Student Activity Center on the UNC Charlotte campus. At the event, students will have the opportunity to network with business leaders from around the Charlotte area. During the five-course meal, Steven Sweeney, CEO of Chartwells (a division of Charlotte-based Compass Group), will serve as moderator and will demonstrate proper etiquette skills to use during a business lunch or dinner. The dinner concludes with a fashion show, sponsored by Belk, which will spotlight appropriate business professional and business casual attire.

Students may sign up for the etiquette dinner in the lobby of the Friday Building on Wednesday, Oct. 11, Thursday, Oct. 12, Monday, Oct. 16, and Tuesday, Oct. 17 between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM The cost is $15.00 per person. Students who wish to participate in mock interviews should contact April Gonzalez in the University Career Center at adgonzal@email.uncc.edu.
