Economics Department sweeps 2007 faculty awards
Professors from the Department of Economics have won all three of this year’s Belk College faculty awards, marking the first departmental “sweep” in recent memory.
Young Davis received theOutstanding Service Award. Heserved as chair of the Department of Economics for 21 years and was instrumental in the development of theM.S. in Economics degree andthe TIAA-CREF/UNC CharlotteEconomic Forecast. Davis hasserved on the Belk College’s RPT committee since 1997 and also served frequently on Economics’ undergraduate curriculum committee. “Youngwill be goinginto phased retirement nextyear, after 37 years on the faculty,” said Belk College Dean Claude Lilly. “This award is an fitting way to recognize a distinguished career in service of UNC Charlotte.”
Ron Madsen received the Excellence in Teaching Award. Hewas nominated for Bank of America teaching award in 2007 andpreviously received the Belk College teachingaward in 2002.Frequentlycited by studentsas a faculty mentor andcommitted to curriculum development, hemost recently developed a new course that was offered at Copenhagen Business School in Denmark, an international partner of the Belk College.”This award is presented with gratitude forRon’s long-term, sustained contribution to outstanding teaching,” Dean Lilly said.
Rob Roy McGregor received the Distinguished Scholarship Award.He regularly publishes in some of the elite journals in economics and finance, and hispapers have been cited as “important contributions to political and institutional literature.”External reviewers have been impressed withMcGregor’s data collection and clarity of description.He has been involved in two National Science Foundation grants andparticipates in high-profile economic impact studies. “Rob Roy McGregor is a most deserving recipient of this award,” Dean Lilly said, “in recognition ofhis valuable contributions as a scholar and researcher.”
