Belk College adopts new progression requirements for undergraduates

Sunday, August 12, 2007

The Belk College of Business has implemented a change in its undergraduate Progression Requirement effective Monday, August 13, 2007.

***********

The Belk College of Business was at full capacity in almost all 3000-level required core courses for undergraduate majors in Fall 2006. The College is implementing an additional requirement related to the Progression Courses due to this increase in numbers and our limited class space. This additional requirement is effective August 13, 2007. The new requirement is listed in italics below.

The Progression Requirements for the Belk College of Business include:

* Students must attain C’s or better (within at least 2 attempts) in the following seven Progression Courses: ACCT 2121, 2122; ECON 2101, 2102; INFO 2130; MATH 1120; and STAT 1220

* Students must attain minimum GPA of 2.5 in these seven Progression Courses

* Students must attain minimum overall GPA of 2.5 to declare a specific business major (e.g. Accounting, Economics, Finance, Industrial & Operations Management, International Business, Management, Management Information Systems, or Marketing)

* Students must attain junior status (minimum 60 semester hours)

* Students must take remaining business requirements at UNC Charlotte

These new Progression Requirements are listed in the 2007-09 Undergraduate Catalog. According to the catalog, “any student who changes from one major or minor to another must meet requirements of the new major or minor in effect at the time of the change.”

Students affected by this new policy include:

* Currently enrolled students in majors outside the Belk College of Business (including Arts & Sciences Undecided)

* Readmitted students for Fall 2007

* New freshmen and transfer students, whose first semester at UNC Charlotte is Fall 2007

Note: This new requirement applies to all students EXCEPT those that were classified and enrolled as Pre-Accounting (PACC), Pre-Business (PBUS), or Pre-Economics (PECO) prior to August 13, 2007.
