Dr. Malmgren to be honored at Accounting alumni social on April 26

Retiring Belk College Accounting Professor, Dr. Ed Malmgren, will be honored at an Accounting alumni social on Thursday, April 26.  The event begins at 5:00  PM in the Friday Building Reading Rooms on UNC Charlotte’s main campus.

Dr. Malmgren came to UNC Charlotte in 1972 after earning his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. Over the course of his career, he has been the recipient of various prestigious teaching and service awards, including the Bank of America (formerly Nationsbank) Teaching Excellence Award in 1984; the Thomas C. Turner Distinguished Teaching Award, in 1994 and 2004; and the Dean’s Award for Faculty Excellence in 2009. In addition, Dr. Malmgren was nominated for the U.S. Professor of the Year Award in 2006. An expert in financial accounting, Dr. Malmgren taught a variety of classes, from introductory accounting for sophomores to advanced accounting for seniors, and served as an advisor to the Beta Alpha Psi accounting organization for more than 10 years.

“In his 40 years at UNC Charlotte, Dr. Malmgren has had a tremendous impact on the lives of our students and alumni,” said Dr. Hughlene Burton, chair of the Department of Accounting. “No matter how many years our alumni have been out of school, they always ask about Dr. Malmgren. His passion and level of dedication to our students is exemplary.”
