Belk College to debut “Smart Talk” on Jan. 12

The Belk College of Business will debut a new television program Jan. 12 on UNC Charlotte Television.

“Smart Talk: Conversations with Claude Lilly” will feature the dean of the Belk College conducting one-on-one interviews with top business and community leaders on topics related to leadership.

“We wanted to go beyond the bottom line with ‘Smart Talk,'” Dean Lilly said, “and discover the qualities and experiences that successful people have in common. Who were their mentors? How did their childhoods and educations help shape their career paths? What lessons have they learned? How do they manage and motivate people?”

“Smart Talk” will air on Friday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 PM on UNC Charlotte Television (Channel 22 in Time Warner Cable’s Charlotte market). Segments of the programs will be available for streaming on the Belk College website.

The premiere episode, broadcast Jan. 12 and 14,will feature Gene Johnson, CEO of FairPoint Communications. Johnson is a member of the Belk CollegeBusiness Advisory Council and a 1973 graduate of UNC Charlotte.

Other “Smart Talk” guests will include:

  • Linda Hudson, President, BAE Systems Land & Armaments – Jan. 19 and 21
  • Paul Anderson, chairman of the board of Duke Energy Corp. – Jan. 26 and 28
  • Linda Lockman-Brooks, President, Lockman-Brooks Marketing – Feb. 2 and 4
  • Phil Dubois, Chancellor, UNC Charlotte – Feb. 9 and 11
  • Cynthia Carlson, Principal, CampbellCarlson Executive Search – Feb. 16 and 18

In addition to Dean Lilly as host, several other members of the Belk College staff are involved in the production of “Smart Talk.” Sasha Trosch, director of communications and community affairs, serves as executive producer. Coordinating producers are LaVonda Hayes and Von Kinloch. Brad Bowen of Channel 22 directs the program.
