Urban Plan is a business-simulation programin whichteams of students develop a planfor the redevelopment of a blighted neighborhood in a hypothetical community. Each team member assumes one of five roles: finance director, marketing director, city liaison, neighborhood liaison, and site planner. Through these roles, students develop a real-life understanding of the various stakeholders in the development process and the challenge of reconciling the stakeholders’ often competing agendas to create a well-designed, sustainable project.Local real estate and land use professionalswill collaborate withthe student teams and provide valuable real-world feedback.
UNC Charlotte will be the ninth university in the U.S. to include the Urban Plan program in its curriculum.
“We believe Urban Planwill be of tremendous value to our graduate students in the real estate program,” said Steve Ott, director of the Center for Real Estate and interim dean of the Belk College of Business. “It provides a unique and innovative way to illustrate the complexities of theindustry.”
