Beta Alpha Psi chapter recognizes distinguished alumnus, faculty member

Burton, Hull and Dean Ott at BAP awardsAt the UNC Charlotte Beta Alpha Psi fall banquet on Dec. 1, members of the honor organization, business professionals and faculty members honored Lowe’s executive Robert Hull and Accounting Professor Suzanne Sevin.

Hull, Lowe’s chief financial officer since 2003, was recognized as the Distinguished Alumni of the Year by the chapter. He joined Lowe’s in 1999 as vice president of financial planning and analysis. Hull is responsible for accounting, tax, treasury, investor relations, and financial planning and analysis. He has more than 25 years of retail and financial management experience. He is a Certified Public Accountant and earned bachelor’s degrees in business administration and accounting in 1985 and 1988 respectively from UNC Charlotte. Hull served on the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2015 and was inducted into the UNC Charlotte Hall of Fame.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of SPX Corp.

The Thomas Turner Distinguished Teaching Award was presented to Dr. Sevin. She was selected by a committee of faculty and students for her dedication and excellence in teaching. Dr. Sevin joined the Belk College faculty in August 2001. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University and a MBA from the University of New Orleans. Before entering the doctoral program at the University of Georgia, she gained professional experience as an accountant and financial analyst for two oil and gas companies, and as a vice president responsible for origination and portfolio management at an oil and gas investment firm. Sevin is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst candidate. She is a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Guinn gives Sevin BAP awardIn addition, the chapter was awarded Superior status by the national Beta Alpha Psi organization for achievements in community service events and professional business events during the last academic year. The chapter has achieved superior status every year since 1998.

"Through their drive and determination, our students continue to make the UNC Charlotte Beta Alpha Psi chapter one of the best in the nation. Their experiences and contacts made through the organization help prepare them for a successful transition to the professional world," said faculty adviser Robert Monaghan.

Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for accounting and finance students and professionals. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance, and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

UNC Charlotte’s Beta Alpha Psi Eta Alpha Chapter was founded in 1984. The chapter has 83 members and associates. One objective of the chapter is to provide a positive atmosphere for the academic, social, and professional growth of our members.
