Arnold keynotes international symposium on corporate social responsibility
Denis G. Arnold, Surtman distinguished scholar in business ethics and associate professor of management in the Belk College of Business, will make the keynote presentation at the annual symposium of the Nottingham University Business School (UK) International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility.
The conference, titled “Spheres of Influence/Spheres of Responsibility: Multinational Corporations and Human Rights,” will bring together international experts on business ethics, human rights, business and corporate social responsibilityto discuss issues surrounding states’ duties to protecthuman rights, corporations’ responsibilities to respect human rights, and states’abilities to investigate, punish and redress corporations who fail to respect human rights.
The symposium will be held at Nottingham University on November 7.
Arnold, who joined the Belk College this fall,is a well-regarded expert onbusiness ethics and public policy. He has published and lectured extensively on global labor practices (the “sweatshop” problem), business and human rights, and ethical issues in the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Arnold is the author of “The Ethics of Global Business” and hasedited or co-edited several other books on topics related to business ethics. In addition, he has authoredover forty articles and chapters, many of which are reprinted in textbooks.Dr. Arnoldis also an elected member of the Executive Board of the Society for Business Ethics, the main professional organization for business ethics scholars in the United States.
