Community Conversation discusses employment, economic trends with industry experts
UNC Charlotte re-launched its successful “Community Conversations: Changing Times…Changing Minds” speaker series this spring with a panel discussion focused on jobs and the economic recovery, hosted by the Belk College of Business at the Levine Museum of the New South.
The topic of the March 17 conversation was “Charlotte’s Changing Workforce: Trends and Outlooks for Jobs and Recovery.” Panelists explored the opportunities and challenges for employers in the economic recovery as well as trends in hiring and employment.
Local experts participated in the conversation. Panelists included Dan DiMicco, chairman and CEO, Nucor Corp.; Matt Martin, senior vice president and Charlotte regional executive, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond; and John Connaughton, professor of economics in the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte. Belk College Dean Joe Mazzola moderated the discussion.
In 2009, the University hosted a monthly conversation with the community at the Museum every third Wednesday of each month, as a sponsor of the museum exhibit, “Changing Places: From Black and White to Technicolor,” which opened last February. When the Museum extended the run of the exhibit, Executive Director Emily Zimmern encouraged UNC Charlotte to continue the popular series.
