U.S. News Ranks Belk College Part-Time MBA #35 Nationally
The U.S. News & World Report part-time MBA rankings, released today, position the Belk College part-time MBA at #35, achieving the program’s highest historical ranking. It is the #1 ranked public part-time MBA program in North Carolina.
The 2020 ranking places the Belk College of Business in the top 20 percent of all ranked part-time MBA programs nationwide. The Belk College of Business tied at #35 with University of California-San Diego, University of Richmond, Villanova University and Lehigh University. The Belk College MBA has seen its rank increase by five places, on average, with a steady seven percent annual increase over the last five years. It places the Belk College MBA in good company with prestigious institutions like the University of Florida, Boston College, University of Maryland-College Park, Southern Methodist University and Rutgers University.
With a 26 percent increase from the previous year, the Belk College MBA continues to applaud the innovative work of the high-caliber students and faculty that progress the program in new ways. “The dedication of our students, faculty, staff and alumni is truly recognized with a ranking that places us as one of the leading programs in the country,” said Belk College Dean Steven Ott.

Each year, U.S. News ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing, including specialties in each area. The Best Graduate Schools rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students. The data for the rankings in all six disciplines come from statistical surveys of more than 2,054 programs and from reputation surveys sent to more than 22,018 academics and professionals, conducted in fall 2018 and early 2019.

Manuel Zapata was a member of the first class at the Belk College to earn an MBA in 1972. Zapata, a native of Chile, is President of Zapata Engineering, a firm he established to provide engineering and construction services to the Department of Defense and private sector clients worldwide. Zapata believes in strong civic engagement and through the NC Department of Commerce, the Charlotte Chamber and Sister Cities program he has worked to strengthen Charlotte’s economic ties to the world.
