Scouting Food Drive Supports Jamil Niner Student Pantry
The inaugural Scouting Food Drive, developed by Belk College of Business Alumni Council member David McKenzie ‘88, ‘91, is helping UNC Charlotte students who struggle with food insecurity.
Through the drive, local scouts, scout leaders and 10 troops came together on Sept. 19 to collect and donate 1,110 pounds of food and raise over $800 for the Jamil Niner Student Pantry.
McKenzie had help from longtime 49er supporter Frank “Chip” Wampler, UNC Charlotte student Matthew Keeley, as well as alumni Jim Hefner ’91, Damian Huneycutt ’02 and Ahmad Antar ‘05.
McKenzie hopes the food drive will become an annual event.
The Jamil Niner Student Pantry provides assistance to UNC Charlotte undergraduate and graduate students who struggle with food insecurity.
In honor of #GivingTuesday, alumni, parents and friends can visit givingtuesday.uncc.edu/ to make a gift to the Jamil Niner Student Pantry to ensure no person in the Niner community goes hungry and that every student has access to nutritious food this holiday season.
You can also help stock the Pantry’s shelves immediately with the Jamil Niner Pantry’s Virtual Food Drive! The Pantry’s most-needed food items can be found on this Amazon wish list. Choose the items and ship them directly to the University to allow the Pantry to replenish its supply.
