Rose Brown ‘17 aims to leave a legacy of hope

Belk College of Business alumna Rose Brown ‘17 Management and Psychology has been awarded the UNC Charlotte Black Alumni Chapter 2020 Excellence in Leadership Award for Public Service.

Brown says she aims to leave a legacy of hope for women of underrepresented and marginalized populations. She is an active member of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence Speakers Bureau and the Mecklenburg County Domestic Violence Speakers Bureau.  She is also helping the Orange County Rape Crisis Center create a survivors speakers bureau, addressing an increased need to raise awareness and alleviate domestic and sexual violence.

Rose Brown '17“Public service for me looks different these days, but it is nothing short of virtual boots on the ground,” she says. “In 2020, I served as an American Red Cross Sr. Recruitment Specialist, where I remotely recruited hundreds of Biomedical, Disaster Cycle Services and Service to the Armed Forces volunteers for local lifesaving positions. Being able to serve North Carolina and South Carolina in this capacity was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”

During her time on campus, Brown was an active student leader, helping to build community partnerships for the newly established Jamil Niner Student Pantry. She also served as a research fellow and teaching assistant. Of her time as a business student she says, “Without the education afforded to me at the Belk College of Business, I would not be the person I am today. Because of this experience, I am training to become a faculty member myself and dedicate the rest of my life to teaching, research and, most importantly, service.”

She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in organizational behavior studies from UNC-Chapel Hill.
