Alumni open microbrewery in Oakhurst neighborhood
Two Belk College of Business alumni are bringing the sense of community they found at their alma mater to their new brewery in the east Charlotte neighborhood of Oakurst.
Kiel Arrington ’08 Marketing and Chuck Kistler ’06 Economics and Finance will open Vaulted Oak Brewing later this spring in a former bank building that has been completely renovated.
The two alumni met as students at the Belk College and are using their business education to open the new local venture, which will feature a variety of regionally-inspired beers.
“When I chose UNC Charlotte, my mother told me, ‘Do something that makes it feel like home.’ The Belk College gave me that ‘something’ to make it feel like home,” says Kistler, a past member of the Belk College Alumni Council. “The Belk College taught us to think like an entrepreneur but to work as a team. At the end of the day, you can be amazing at your job, but if you can’t work with people, you will fail every time. We are ‘rooted’ here, and Belk College planted the seeds. It is up to us to continue to water them and help them grow.”
