Business Matters aims to support Black business in Charlotte.

UNC Charlotte’s MBA program is partnering with QCity Metro to host a series of virtual discussions that highlight Charlotte-based experts and entrepreneurs and support Black business in Charlotte.

Hosted by QCity Metro columnist and entrepreneurship coach Donna Maria, Business Matters covers a wide range of topics.

In the first installment, Maria sat down virtually with UNC Charlotte MBA alumnus and Belk College Alumni Council member Jabbar Jamison ‘08 and Centario Grier, who own J&G Legacy Financial Group. They chat about how to choose the right business partner, the life of a founder, and how Jamison benefitted from earning a Charlotte MBA.

In episode two Maria chatted with Dr. George Banks, professor of management and chair of the Department of Management in the Belk College of Business. They discuss current and future trends, how to be a successful entrepreneur and more.

Two additional segments are planned this summer: an interview with Dr. Janaki Gooty, director of Charlotte MBA programs and a Belk College associate professor and researcher, and Sonyah Spencer, owner of Urban Reader Bookstore.

Founded in 2008, QCity Metro is one of the nation’s first digital-only news organizations built to serve a local, Black audience, and aims to provide news, information and commentary from a Black perspective.

The program is part of a new series of partnerships for the nationally ranked Charlotte MBA program connected with the launch of the Charlotte online MBA

The nationally ranked Charlotte MBA, the first and largest program of its kind in the region, has been helping students advance their career for more than 50 years. Students can choose from the part-time evening program or the new fully online Charlotte MBA, which begins in August.
