Alumni and industry partners raised over $60,000 to support student scholarships at the fourth annual UNC Charlotte Belk College of Business Risk Management and Insurance Golf Tournament on Sept. 16.

The sold-out tournament,  held at Rocky River Golf Course in Concord, brought together   supporters from as far away as Philadelphia. This year’s event supported scholarships for students in the RMI program andthe UNC Charlotte student emergency relief fund

Ross Fowler, vice president of underwriting for Builders Mutual and a member of the RMI Board of Advisors, served as the tournament director.

“We are so thankful for the industry partners and alumni for their investment in Belk College RMI students, which is even more crucial now with the challenges of a global pandemic,” said Jennifer Troyer, dean of the Belk College. “This support helps students complete their degrees, participate in internships or simply afford to return the next semester.”

The tournament well surpassed its goal of $55,000.

The tournament also raised funds by selling mulligans, through  a golf ball “cannon.” Prizes were awarded for the longest drive, closest to the pin and the top two foursomes. RMI students were on hand to network with industry professionals and thank them for their support.

Belk College’s Risk Management and Insurance undergraduate concentration, through the Department of Finance, helps develop the next generation of insurance professionals through courses closely aligned with industry and through experiential learning opportunities, such as internships, career fairs, student mentoring, and international travel.
