A.J. Wullschleger

What advice do you have for current Belk College students?

Be confident in your education and what you have learned at this great university.  When doors are opened for interviews and networking opportunities, be confident in your abilities and education.  Once an opportunity is opened to you, the situation is no longer about your past education and experiences. It is now about what you can do in the future.

What kinds of opportunities did you have at UNC Charlotte, such as membership in student groups, sports, internships, or study-abroad opportunities?

I was the President of the Financial Management Association and I did a lot of networking with Beta Alpha Psi. I had a yearlong internship with Community Capital Management, which is a mutual fund manager in Ballantyne.

Why did you choose UNC Charlotte?

I chose UNC Charlotte because of the location.  I am from Charlotte and wanted to stay in the area.  What I didn't know was that by being in Charlotte there are more opportunities in the business community that are available if you work for those opportunities.

What was the best part of your Belk College experience?

UNC Charlotte is a place where you can become whoever you would like to be.  It’s large enough that you can find your niche and grow in whichever culture you would like.

What was your first job after graduation?

After graduation I worked for a mutual fund as a research analyst.

What did you learn in the Belk College that has best prepared you for your career?

Networking, networking, networking.  Learn to network! The business world is just as much about what you know as it is about whom you know.  There are so many opportunities for you to network because of UNC Charlotte’s location. There are great schools that are not in the type of city you are in so their students are not afforded the opportunities you are.  Use them!
