Endowed Faculty Funds

The Belk College extends its gratitude to the following individuals, corporations and foundations who have shown their support excellence in teaching and scholarship by endowing funds for faculty in the college.

BARCLAYS AMERICAN SUMMER RESEARCH AWARD

Funded by the Barclays Bank Foundation, this award supports new research during the summer to a tenure track faculty. There are two awards available annually, to be used for stipends and/or funds for travel, administrative assistance, and other expenses related to the research project.

WILLIAM HENRY BELK GRADUATE INTERNATIONAL ENDOWMENT FUND

Funded by the Belk Foundation with a $1.5 million gift in 2003, this fund provides funding for the Belk College of Business to develop its international program at the graduate level.

BIG FIVE PROFESSORSHIP IN ACCOUNTING

Funded by Ernst & Young, LLP, Deloitte, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2000, this professorship provides financial assistance to a faculty member in the accounting department of the Belk College of Business.

CHILDRESS KLEIN RESEARCH  FELLOWSHIPS

Funded by Childress Klein Properties with a $1 million contribution in 1999, this award provides financial assistance to faculty members in the Belk College of Business. Awards are intended to support new research, and a faculty member may win the award more than once.

JOHN CROSLAND, SR. DISTINGUISHED CHAIR IN REAL ESTATE AND DEVELOPMENT

Established in 1991 by friends and colleagues of developer John Crosland, Sr. in recognition of his many contributions to the Charlotte region and the real estate industry. The John Crosland Company (now Crosland LLC) was founded in 1937 and has continued to shape Charlotte and the surrounding region using Mr. Crosland’s guiding principals of fairness, honesty, and delivering on promises.

CHARLES CULLEN PROFESSORSHIP IN MARKETING

Established in 2004 to provide financial assistance to a faculty member in the marketing department of the Belk College of Business.

RUSH S. DICKSON PROFESSOR OF FINANCE

Established in 1967 in memory of the late Rush S. Dickson of Charlotte. This professorship was made possible through the generous gifts and pledges by the Dickson Foundation and the Rush S. Dickson Family Foundation to support a professorship and faculty research in finance.

DISTINGUISHED INSURANCE PROFESSORSHIP

Established in 1990 by several donors to provide financial support for a faculty member in the Belk College of Business.

MARK AND SUSAN DOUGHTON FACULTY DEVELOPMENT FUND

Established in 2004 by S. Mark Doughton, Class of 1980, and his wife Susan to support faculty development in the Belk College of Business. Mark serves on the UNC Charlotte Foundation board and actively participates in UNC Charlotte events.

FOOD LION ENDOWMENT FOR ACCOUNTING

In 2001, Delhaize America established the Food Lion Endowment for Accounting, instructing that earnings be used at the discretion of the chairperson of the Department of Accounting.

BUCKY AND JAN GLOVER ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT ENDOWMENT FUND

Established in 2005 by alumni Bucky and Jan Glover of Potter and Company, PA to support faculty development.

GRACE INTERNATIONAL  FELLOWSHIP

Established in 1991 by Cummins Atlantic, Inc. to fund faculty in the Belk College of Business for overseas travel to present papers and/or participate in international professional programs.

JAMES J. HARRIS CHAIR OF RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE

Established in 1995 by the James J. and Angelia M. Harris Foundation to fund the Chair of Risk Management and Insurance.

JIM & HILDA HAYES FACULTY DEVELOPMENT FUND

Established in 2002 by alumni James E. Hayes and Hilda M. Hayes to support faculty development in the Belk College of Business.

TORRENCE E. HEMBY, SR. DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR IN BANKING

Established in 1995 by the Alex Hemby Foundation to support a professor in banking.

JOHNSON ENDOWMENT FOR TEACHING

Established in 2000 by alumni Gene ‘73 and Vickie ‘71 Johnson to support annual faculty development research grants used to assist faculty in their pedagogical research and development. The Johnsons are members of the Cone Society at UNC Charlotte and have served the university on many boards.

O’HERRON FACULTY DEVELOPMENT FUND

Established in 1990 by the O’Herron Foundation to provide supplements for faculty salaries in the Belk College of Business.

ADDISON H. & GERTRUDE C. REESE ENDOWED CHAIR IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

Established in 2003 by Mr. Addison Hardcastle Reese.

BELK COLLEGE "SUPER STAFF" FUND

Established in 2004 to provide an annual award to a staff member of three or more years in the Belk College of Business.

THOMAS C. TURNER DISTINGUISHED TEACHING LECTURESHIP

Established in 1992 to commemorate the retirement of Dr. Thomas C. Turner, to provide funding for outstanding faculty in the Department of Accounting.

THE JULE AND MARGUERITE SURTMAN DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORSHIP IN BUSINESS ETHICS

Established in 2004 by the Surtman Foundation to provide financial support for faculty development in the Belk College of Business. The focus of the professorship is to support faculty who work in developing modules on issues in ethics as they relate to the curriculum and/or teach a course in ethics.

WACHOVIA FUND FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

Established in 1991 by the Wachovia Corporation to provide financial assistance for a faculty member of the Belk College of Business. One award is granted annually which may include a stipend, funds for travel, administrative assistance, and other related expenses.
