In your opinion, what are the best things about UNC Charlotte?
1. One of the things I love about UNC Charlotte is the opportunities that are available to us by being so close to the business center.
2. I love the fact that we are constantly improving - whether it be in academics, sports or infrastructure.
3. The diversity at UNC Charlotte is incomparable to any other school.
4. The sunsets in front of the Union.
Where is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus has to be the Union Gallery. I love going to the exhibitions and listening to people play piano there.
What is your favorite food?
My mother’s biryani is my favorite food.
What is your favorite Charlotte restaurant?
Le Kebab near the university
What major did you pursue and why?
I was an international business and finance double major until the beginning of the fall 2015 semester. After I took Principles of Accounting, I decided to change my major to accounting because I thoroughly enjoyed the subject.
Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?
I chose UNC Charlotte because Charlotte is home. I have lived in Charlotte since I moved to the United States in 2010 from Pakistan. I wanted a college experience that was financially feasible and also academically rigorous. The Belk College of Business provided both at a very short distance from home. I also fell in love with the campus years before I even started college. I found my study spot on the third floor of Atkins library during my junior year of high school when I was studying for the SAT.
What activities are you involved in when not working/studying?
I was the president of UNC Charlotte Enactus, which is an international nonprofit organization working to empower local and global communities through entrepreneurship. I organize and lead a group of student volunteers to do art therapy with students in the special needs education program at a nearby high school.
What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?
Taking a class called Between Malcolm X and Martin Luther King with Dr. Julia Robinson has so far been the most eye-opening course of my academic career. In this class, I was introduced to issues of racial tension in America today through the religious philosophies of both African-American heroes.
How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?
The Belk College of Business is a place where new ideas are encouraged, where professors get to know you by name and where opportunities are unlimited.
If you received a scholarship or financial aid, how did that help you?
I come from a low-income family so going to college is a blessing for me. Federal and state grants have helped me fund my education thus far. I also received the Jack Hogue Scholarship, the Turner School of Accountancy scholarship and Enactus scholarship. This support has helped me purchase my textbooks and supplies for the year.
