Marketing
Fahn Darkor graduated in May 2017 with a Marketing major. He was elected the Student Body President for the Student Government Association in 2017 and was elected the 2016 Homecoming Prince.
What major did you pursue and why?

I pursued a Marketing major. I’ve always had an interest in how things are advertised and the selling side of the product. I enjoy thinking about different approaches to promoting a product effectively. It’s a field that allows me to look at multiple viewpoints to choose which one I believe will have the best outlook.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?

I originally came to UNC Charlotte pursuing a degree in Biology, but I realized that pursuing that degree wasn’t my passion. At that point, I transferred to the Belk College of Business and began pursuing my Marketing major.

What activities were you involved in when not working or studying?

Outside of academics, I am a part of a number of student organizations. I serve on the Student Government Association as Student Body President. I am also a member of the Black Student Union and the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Finally, I work with the SAFE and SOAR programs on campus.

What was the best part of your academic experience?

The best part of my academic experience has been the Marketing Strategy and Consultancy course that I’ve taken as a part of the program’s curriculum. The semester-long consulting project is extremely hands on and provides me with real world experience. Rather than reading textbooks and taking tests, I was able to work on solving real-world marketing problems and honing my skills as a professional.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?

The Belk College is challenging, but achievable. If you work on maintaining your schedules and finding a balance, you will be successful.
