MBA alumnus, Fernando Mayoral graduated from college in 2010 with a major in Electronic and Computer Engineering. He is a marketing strategist with more than 5 years of experience managing marketing campaigns, implementing marketing strategies, developing products and analyzing big data to make business decisions. In 2016 he started his MBA in Global Business and Strategy at the EGADE Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico. In the dual degree program, he came to Charlotte to study for the last half of the master’s program and graduated in May 2017. He currently works in the Latin American Chamber of Commerce in Charlotte as a Marketing and Communications Intern where he implements new advertising techniques to promote the services and benefits of the non-profit organization.
What benefits did you experience from the dual-MBA program?
I got to meet and work with international students and staff, immerse myself into a new culture and learn business from both a Mexican and American perspective.
Since graduation with your dual-MBA degrees, what are your professional goals?
Personally, I wasn’t thrilled to return to corporate life. That’s why I decided to work for a non-profit and make a major impact on the community. This experience showed me that small and medium companies need a lot of help to develop their own businesses. My current professional goal is to develop and run my own business, an event planning and promotion company, and put into practice all of my expertise and knowledge that I gained from the MBA program.
How do you feel participation in this program benefitted you professionally?
I’m an Electronic Engineer, so participating in a program like this opened a new window for me to develop my professional skills, learn about businesses, get international experience, and gave me the necessary tools to be an entrepreneur.
From partnerships like the EGADE/Belk College dual-MBA degree, do you see any impacts on the relationship and opportunities between the Latin American and American business communities, even if on a micro scale?
There is definitely an impact, but there is a big need to make these kinds of dual degree programs known to corporations. There is a lack of knowledge about the capabilities and professionalism from Latino students and about the job opportunities under a student visa.
