Reginald Silver

What are some of the opportunities you envision to utilize your expertise at UNC Charlotte and the Charlotte community (and beyond)?  

My appointment allows me to bring years of practical experience to the classroom setting in a way that will inform future leaders. I am able to develop partnerships within the community through collaborative research projects and scholarly publications.

Reginald A. Silver is Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Executive Education, Clinical Professor of BISOM, Clinical Professor of Data Science and Business Analytics. He joined the Belk College of Business in August 2014. Prior to his appointment at the Belk College of Business, Dr. Silver accumulated 18 years of experience in healthcare operations and finance. Dr. Silver’s areas of interest include human and systems integration, the impact of diversity on management team performance, developing key performance indicators for systems measurement, and assessing the implications of electronic health record systems on the delivery of healthcare services.
What was your interest in joining UNC Charlotte and the Belk College of Business?

I was excited to join the  Belk College of Business in 2014 because the college has taken on the challenge of equipping our students with the skills that they will need to navigate an ever-changing business landscape. The college is uniquely positioned to shape future thought leaders with a focus on significant topics such as management information systems, operations, big data and analytics.

Describe your major areas of expertise.

My areas of expertise are operations management, finance, Lean/Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and developing key performance indicators to assess the performance of systems.

What kind of classes do you teach?

I teach courses in management information systems, information management, statistics, analytics and data science, as well as research methods in the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) program.

What has your research uncovered thus far and where has it been published? What research is in progress?

My research interests include healthcare information technology, business analytics and performance improvement methodologies. I am currently researching the factors that influence the adoption of healthcare technology and the potential impacts that the adoption of that technology can have on healthcare outcomes.

How do you work with Charlotte groups/businesses/leaders?

I am excited about the opportunity to work with Charlotte groups, businesses and leaders in collaborative research efforts, public/private partnerships, and policy evaluation initiatives.  I am also excited about possibly extending my expertise in performance improvement and healthcare leadership to assist healthcare organizations with expanding access to healthcare services.
