Finance
Steven Serio received his bachelor's degree in Finance in May 2015 and currently works at Bank of America in the Financial Management Associate Program (FMAP). While at UNC Charlotte, he was Student Body President and also in the Applied Technology Program through Bank of America.
Why did you study finance?

Finance is a degree that not only teaches you about investments, risk management, and how the financial industry operates, but it teaches you transferable skills that you can use regardless of what industry you work in after college.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?

I chose to attend and study Finance at UNC Charlotte because of the highly competitive Belk College of Business, the proximity to Uptown Charlotte and the corporations that have their headquarters located in or around the city.

What activities were you involved in when not working/studying?

Being in the Belk College of Business has given me the opportunity to be in the Applied Technology Program (ATP). This program is a partnership between Bank of America and UNC Charlotte where students from the Belk College of Business and College of Computing and Informatics work together in a 17-month internship while being a full-time student. ATP has given me the corporate knowledge that you just cannot learn in the classroom, and that is invaluable. Also, I currently serve as the Student Body President and Board of Trustee for the University, where we look at the strategic plan of the University and make recommendations to the Chancellor.

What was the best part of your academic experience?

The knowledge I have gained and the experiences that were offered will stay with me well into my professional career. The best things that I experienced while attending UNC Charlotte were attending the first home game for 49ers Football, leading the student body and serving as their voice, and having all the opportunities to advance my career with internships and networking events.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?

The Belk College of Business prepares you extremely well for the business world that is ahead once you graduate. With the amount of opportunities the College has to offer, such as diverse classes to high-caliber professors that have previous business experience, you would not be disappointed or unprepared for the business world post-graduation.
