FAQs

Here you can find frequently asked questions by prospective students and new members of the Business Honors Program.

The Business Honors courses are mostly aligned with the Business Core Curriculum. Students will be required to take honors versions of certain core business courses and additionally will take 3 practicum courses, which are 1-credit hour special topics courses rooted in professional development.

There are some additional requirements outside of the classroom that will require some extra time, but these social, service, and professional events are all designed to enhance the educational experience and many of our students would describe these other requirements as their favorite parts of the program.

Honors classes are not designed to just be harder or to give more work. In honors courses, students take a more active role in the learning process and will participate in more classroom discussions and group projects with fewer lectures and exams.

Of course! Internships and study abroad opportunities are strongly encouraged and are actually part of the requirements for the Business Honors Program (either an internship or study abroad experience is required prior to graduation). While most of our students choose to study abroad or do internships over the summer, we have many options available to fit in a study abroad experience during a fall or spring semester and several students will work or complete internships during the semester as well.

Business Honors students are given mentorship groups in the summer before starting in the program. These mentorship groups are led by a pair of upperclassmen and include other new students so that our students can start developing friendships before they officially start their time in the Business Honors Program. Once the semester begins, we host numerous social events, community service events, and even have a fall retreat for all new members to strengthen friendships. Because you take several honors courses with the same group of students, you will have the opportunity to form bonds within the classroom as well. It is fairly easy to make friends quickly within the Business Honors Program and can really help with new freshmen transitioning into college.

The University Honors and Business Honors Programs are two different honors programs housed underneath the Honors College at UNC Charlotte. The Business Honors Program is only open to students majoring in the Belk College of Business while the University Honors Program is open to any major at the university (including business). Students interested in either program will apply to the Honors College Application in the NinerScholars Portal and while students can only join one of the two programs, business majors will be considered for both programs. Curriculum and extra-curricular requirements vary between the programs, but there are many similar perks to both programs.

Due to the global pandemic, standardized test scores are not required to apply to the Honors College for Fall 2022 admission. There have been no decisions made about requiring standardized test scores past the 21-22 application cycle.

First-year incoming Business Honors students have the opportunity to live in Levine Hall, where there are a few dedicated honors floors. Space is limited so we encourage you to accept your offer to join the Business Honors Program and complete your housing application as soon as possible to have the chance to live there. Honors students can choose to live elsewhere on campus or live off campus as well.
